St. Johns County Accepting Beach Toll Attendant Applications – Applications for this seasonal position will be accepted between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., January 6, 8, & 10 at the Beach Services Office, 901 Pope Rd., St. Augustine. The season is March through the last weekend in October, with a Feruary orientation and training. Attendants are responsible for selling vehicle beach access passes and providing customer service for beach visitors. St. Johns County Main Branch Library Adds Hours – Hours are being extended in an effort to address local needs. Beginning January 6, hours will be Monday and Tuesday: 11 a.m. - 7 p.m., Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., Saturday: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sunday: Closed. Revised Mickler's Landing Beachfront Park Public Access Schedule – In response to requests from the community, the Board of County Commissioners has directed the Mickler's Landing Beachfront Park dune reconstruction schedule to be revised to allow daily public access. The park and parking lot will now be open to the public from 11:00 a.m. to sunset Monday through Friday, and from sunrise to sunset Saturday and Sunday. St. Johns County Paper Shredding Event – St. Johns County invites residents to a free document shredding event on Saturday, December 14. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Republic Services Facility, 445 Republic Dr., St. Augustine.
Participants can securely destroy and recycle confidential, personal, banking, and other informational documents. Items generated by commercial activity, three-ring binders, and cardboard will not be accepted. For more information, please call 904.825.0991.
St. Johns County Library Hosts “Color Your World” Grant Award Media Event – The media and public are invited to try the newly-received EnChroma receptor glasses at the Main Library from 12 to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11. Thanks to a generous $13,000 grant from the Barbara A. Kay Foundation and the Friends of the Main Library, the Library will be able to offer a new way to see the world with life-changing EnChroma receptor glasses available for checkout to library patrons. These unique glasses use patented technology to show the colorblind brilliant color for the first time. The “Color Your World” program will also offer free oil pastel classes for patrons system-wide. 2020 St. Johns Reads & Library 5K – The SJC Library System has announced Delia Owens’ novel Where the Crawdads Sing as the featured book for the "St. Johns Reads" community-wide reading project. Programs focusing on the book will be held at all library locations and bookmobiles throughout February. This year will feature the first-ever Library 5K in Nocatee, called “Lace Up for Libraries,” on Saturday, February 29 to help raise funds for future St. Johns Reads events. “Food for Fines” Program to Benefit Food Pantry – The Public Library System once again offers a way to lower or eliminate library fines, while providing much needed assistance to the Health and Human Services Food Pantry through the “Food for Fines” program. Through December 20, donation of one non-perishable food item will remove $1 of overdue fines from a patron’s record. Fire Rescue Master Plan Public Meetings – St. Johns County Fire Rescue is developing a master plan to guide departmental growth in relation to future fire station locations, staffing allocations, funding and equipment needs. Fire Rescue is hosting two public meetings to garner feedback regarding community priorities and expectations related to public safety services. The first meeting is at 6 p.m. on December 10 at the Nocatee Community Clubhouse and the second meeting is at 6 p.m. on December 11 at the SJC Fire Rescue Station. St. Johns County Affordable Housing Advisory Committee Public Hearing – The Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC) hosted a public hearing to present State Housing Initiatives Partnership Program (SHIP) triennial recommendations for public comment on November 20. The recommendations will also be presented to the Board of County Commissioners during the regularly scheduled Board meeting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, December 17 at the St. Johns County Administration Building, 500 San Sebastian View. As a recipient of SHIP funds, the BCC established an affordable housing advisory committee in 1993 as required by the Florida Statute section 420.9076. The AHAC is responsible for reviewing policies, land development regulations, Comprehensive Plan Policy, and other aspects of the County's policies and procedures that affect the cost of housing. Butler Park West and Boat Ramp Remains Closed for Dredging Project – Butler Park West and the Butler Park boat ramp's opening time frame is to be determined. The site is needed for use as a staging area for the Treasure Beach Canal system dredging project. St. Johns County would like to thank residents and visitors for their patience during the closure.
